With his eyesight failing, one of Britain’s greatest landscape painters attempts one final masterpiece. Available to rent now on QFT Player.
Widely recognised as one of Britain’s finest landscape artists, James Morrison’s work hangs in the homes of JK Rowling and the Royal family, as well as in museums and private collections around the world. But in the twilight of his life, James loses his eyesight and with that, his ability to see the landscape as others couldn’t.
As Morrison reflects on his remarkable artistic journey, from the Glasgow shipyards, to France and the vanishing arctic wilderness, he also confronts his sight loss by attempting one final masterpiece.
Filmmaker Anthony Baxter (You've Been Trumped, Flint) movingly intertwines remarkable archive footage from 50 years before with footage of Morrison now, to show his struggle with old age and his lively views as a much younger painter.
Each rental also contains an audio described version of the film, for the benefit of our blind and visually impaired patrons. Both versions also include captions.
The Scottish Gallery and Screen Language have curated a beautiful, immersive virtual exhibition of James Morrison's work - complete with audio description for those with sight loss. See it here.
