Film Critic, broadcaster and journalist Mark Kermode returns to Cinemagic for his annual Film Night to introduce and discuss Kiki’s Delivery Service, his 2019 festival pick.
Mark will be sharing his thoughts on the year’s new film releases and talking about the important role film festivals play in promoting independent and cultural cinema as Cinemagic celebrates its 30th anniversary, all before answering questions from the audience.
Kiki’s Delivery Service
There comes a time in all of our lives when we have to set out on our own and make a go of living independently. For Kiki, that moment comes shortly after she turns 13. That might seem a little on the young side, but Kiki is a witch-in-training. As part of her supernatural calling she has to spend a year living away from her mother in a new town where she has no connections. Boldly setting off to find her, she ends up in a pretty seaside town called Korico - and there she finds all kinds of adventures awaiting her. This is a hugely enjoyable slice of anime from director Hayao Miyazaki, creator of such classics as Spirited Away.
Film Night host (as always) the brilliant Brian Henry Martin.
