A 15th anniversary screening of Terry Loane’s much-loved adaptation of Owen McCafferty’s stage play - with the director's contribution.

The sectarian divisions and fragmented geography of ‘70s Belfast provide the backdrop for this funny, sad depiction of childhood friendship against the odds.

Two young boys (John Joe McNeill and Niall Wright) from “up the road” and “over the bridge” escape the confines of a city overshadowed by hatred and fear by becoming their heroes, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

Mickybo & Me is a film that manages to provide a wonderful combination of childhood exuberance and social history. The top drawer cast also includes Adrian Dunbar, Julie Walters, Ciarán Hinds, Susan Lynch and Gina McKee.

Mickybo & Me will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director and screenwriter, Terry Loane as well as Clare Mulholland and Dr Gul Kacmaz Erk, School of Natural and Built Environment, Queen’s University.

This event is part of Walled Cities 3: Divided Communities, bringing QFT audiences and academics/experts together via the screening of three films in which political conflict is in the foreground in diverse parts of the world. A discussion, with refreshments, will accompany each screening.

This is a Cinema and Architecture in the City collaborative research group (www.cacity.org) event series funded by Queen's SNBE Culture and Society research cluster.
