Love Irish cinema? Join us for LUMI’s Emerald Reels screening of My Left Foot. A huge hit at QFT upon its initial release in 1989, My Left Foot launched Jim Sheridan’s international career and propelled Irish cinema onto the world stage.
This cinematic masterpiece is the real-life story of legendary Irishman Christy Brown (Daniel Day-Lewis), who despite having cerebal palsy, learned to use his one controllable extremity - his left foot - to become an accomplished artist and writer.
My Left Foot won Academy Awards for Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor) and Brenda Fricker (Best Supporting Actress) and earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
This screening is part of LUMI’s Emerald Reels, highlighting Irish cinema at QFT. This screening will include a panel discussion hosted by Damien Coyle, CEO of University of Atypical, a short film created with Northern Ireland Screen archive footage and an accompanying brochure for Emerald Reels films. Emerald Reels has been created by LUMI Programmer Sophie Adair.
