The bond of a longtime lesbian couple is tested when one is sent to prison for debt and the other rediscovers her passions while chauffeuring wealthier older ladies in this Berlinale Silver Bear-winning drama from Paraguay.

Chela (Ana Brun, winner of the Best Actress prize in Berlin) and Chiquita (Margarita Irun) have been together for 30 years, but when their debts lead to Chiquita being imprisoned on fraud charges, Chela is forced to face a new reality. Driving for the first time in years, she begins to provide a taxi service to a group of rich elderly ladies, and soon she is introduced to a younger woman, Angy (Ana Ivanova), who draws the once-brittle woman out of her shell.

A rare queer story from South America (and an even rarer story about an older lesbian), this is a real treasure of a film from a talent to watch.

Screening as part of QFT’s LGBT History Month season.

Introduction by Paula Tabakin, member of the Rainbow Project’s Gay Ethnic Group. GEG is an informal support network for people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds in Northern Ireland who also identify as being LGBTQ+.
