Just as searing hot today as it was then, Costa Gavras’ 1969 political thriller Z is listed by filmmakers Paul Greengrass and Aki Kaurismäki in their top 10 films of all time.

The public murder of a prominent politician and doctor amid a violent demonstration is covered up by military and government officials but a tenacious magistrate is determined not to let them get away with it.

Taking its title from the symbol used by those attacked during junta rule in Greece, Z explores a period of time when the world felt like it was exploding, with revolution being threatened in Paris, Soviet tanks rolling over Prague’s cobblestoned streets, and students were being murdered in Mexico City.

This screening will include a short introduction by Des O'Rawe, Film Studies at Queen's.

"The best films are those that don’t just tell a story, but also create an experience. Z certainly has that impact." - French Films

Screening as part of the 29th French Film Festival UK.
