When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond, in Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow's (Point Break, The Hurt Locker) highly tense doomsday thriller.
At a remote military outpost, the day starts like any other until a crisis of apocalyptic proportions strikes the United States. Jumping in perspective over the same 18 minutes, a range of characters, from the President (Idris Elba) to an intelligence analyst (Rebecca Ferguson), and a series of military and civilian personalities inbetween, have to deal with the escalating dilemmas at stake in a limited time with only incomplete information and untested protocols at their disposal.
