The third in a trilogy of Glasgow films, Ae Fond Kiss is a sweet-hearted, warmly observed and frequently funny cross-cultural romance from director Ken Loach and writer Paul Laverty (The Old Oak). Screening from 35mm.
Casim (Atta Yaqub) is a second generation Pakistani working as a DJ in Glasgow, who is about to enter an arranged marriage. When he meets and falls for Roisin (Eva Birthistle), an Irish-born teacher at a Catholic school, the pair both find themselves in conflict with their communities.
Created by LUMI Programmer Ewan Hodson - Cities On Celluloid is a film-swap where young people from two independent cinemas trade films that represent their city. Ae Fond Kiss... has been sent to us by GFT Youth Board in Glasgow, and our LUMI Programmers have sent over Good Vibrations to be screened at GFT in January.
This screening has been made possible by Film Hub NI’s Film Exhibition Fund and features a recorded intro from GFT and short film by LUMI Programmer, Tarah McGonigle, created using Northern Ireland Screen Archive footage.
