Angelheaded Hipster explores the legacy of glam rock pioneer Marc Bolan using archive footage, interviews and filmed interpretations by Nick Cave, U2, Joan Jett and more.
Ethan Silverman's film is the first documentary to explore the complex and revolutionary music and lyrics of Marc Bolan and T. Rex, celebrating Bolan’s life from his teenage years digging through Carnaby Street dustbins with David Bowie, to his stellar music career and last relationship with Gloria Jones. Examining Bolan through a new and unique creative lens, Silverman also takes a look behind-the-scenes at the tribute album produced by legendary avant-garde record producer Hal Wilner.
This illuminating doc uses archival performances, interviews with Bolan, Elton John and Ringo Starr, plus filmed musical interpretations by artists such as John Cameron Mitchell, Macy Gray, Lucinda Williams, Father John Misty, and son Rolan Bolan among others; creating an exuberant and thoughtful examination of a true original: a glam rock pioneer, gender-bending free spirit and explorer of punk and soul music.
This screening will be followed by a 30 min recorded Q&A with director Ethan Silverman, producer Bill Curbishley, and Marc Bolan's son, the musician Rolan Bolan.
