A screenplay by Charlie Kaufman directed by Spike Jonze was bound to yield something fantastically nutty; leading us literally into the head of the movie star, John Malkovich.

In this cult-favourite comedy, unemployed New York City puppeteer Craig Schwartz (John Cusack) reluctantly takes a temp job as a filing clerk for the eccentric Dr Lester (Orson Bean). While at work, Craig discovers a portal that leads into the mind of renowned actor John Malkovich. When he lets his co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener) in on the secret, they begin an unusual business scheme and an odd relationship involving Craig's restless wife, Lotte (Cameron Diaz).

The genius of the film is that amidst the hilarity, in-jokes and situations that become more and more absurd, there’s also a pertinent examination of identity, celebrity and of who actually controls our actions.

Part of the Naughton Gallery’s SCREEN/PRINT series in collaboration with QFT and UsFolk, through which illustrators are commissioned to create new posters for their favourite films. Being John Malkovich has been selected by illustrator Cathal Duane, with free posters of their illustration available for all ticket holders.
