A classic tale of sexual awakening from master filmmakers Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (The Red Shoes).

A group of nuns are sent into the Himalayas to set up a mission in what was once the harem's quarters of an ancient palace. While there they find their vows challenged, as Sister Clodagh (Deborah Kerr) has a spiritual crisis and Sister Ruth (Kathleen Byron) becomes erotically obsessed with a British agent.

Using superbly convincing, Oscar-winning studio backdrops, Black Narcissus is a beautiful and evocative film with a theme of eroticism that is still potent nearly 80 years later.

Part of Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell and Pressburger. With support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery in order to bring this project to more audiences across the UK.
