We’re excited to welcome the brilliant Club Des Femmes to Belfast for the first time, to ask: what are dyketactics? What is a lesbionic cinema of queer desire and transformation?
Featuring circus tricks, hot looks, secret spaces, and cruising of all kinds, DYKETACTICS brings together multiple generations of filmmakers queering the gaze.
Interspersing Barabra Hammer’s 1970s films Dyketactics and Double Strength, two of her powerful short films about making art out of life and sex, we’ll screen two of our favourite films by artists that she inspired and supported. In their films Untitled (Dyketactics Revisited) and Lucid Noon, Sunset Blush, contemporary artists Liz aka Riv Rosenfeld and Alli Logout playfully and differently pay tribute to Hammer’s lesbian classics while expanding her gaze on intersectional queer community and reinventing its sexy aesthetics for the twenty-first century.
With an introduction from Club Des Femmes’ So Mayer and Selina Robertson, join us on a cruise through US queer cinema’s transformative practices that speak to the question: how and where do we make time to dream and desire when the world is burning?
