The Naughton Gallery, in collaboration with PRISM, Queen's University's LGBT+ staff network, presents Desert Hearts as part of its SCREEN/PRINT series, with a specially-commissioned print for each attendee designed by Zippy, a Belfast-based artist working in the realms of mural art, illustration, and textile art.
Adapted from a beloved novel by Jane Rule, straitlaced professor Vivian Bell (Helen Shaver) arrives in Reno to file for divorce but winds up catching the eye of someone new, the free-spirited young Cay (Patricia Charbonneau), touching off a slow seduction that unfolds against a breathtaking desert landscape.
Featuring an evocative jukebox soundtrack and vivid cinematography, this 1950s-set love story broke the mould for lesbian filmmaking upon its release, and remains one of the most sensual and beautifully shot queer love stories of all time.
The Naughton Gallery and UsFolk illustration agency present Desert Hearts as the next instalment in their popular SCREEN/PRINT series, through which illustrators are commissioned to create new posters for films which have inspired or influenced their practices. All ticket holders will receive a limited edition print by Zippy. SCREEN/PRINT is generously supported by the Queen's Annual Fund.
