Directed by the legendary Jerzy Skolimowski (The Shout), EO is a strikingly beautiful and mesmerising vision of modern Europe through the eyes of a donkey who embarks on an epic journey across Poland and Italy.
The world is a mysterious place when seen from the perspective of an animal. EO, a donkey with melancholic eyes and a fondness for carrots, meets a plethora of good and bad people after being freed from the only life he’s ever known in a traveling circus. Encountering such varied personalities as a countess (Isabelle Huppert), a young Italian priest (Lorenzo Zurzolo) and a riotous Polish football team, EO’s journey speaks to the world around us, an equine hero boldly pointing out societal ills, and serving as warning to the dangers of neglect and inaction, all the while on a quest for freedom.
Brilliantly shot by Michal Dymek and executive produced by Skolimowski’s longtime collaborator Jeremy Thomas, EO is a visually inventive film which places the viewer directly in the heart and mind of the four-legged protagonist.
"No movie that I’ve seen this year has moved me as deeply, made me feel as optimistic about cinema as EO" - Manohla Dargis, New York Times
