The film affectionately presents a range of fully fleshed-out female characters, including overly-dramatic teenaged girls navigating rocky emotional terrain, and middle-aged mothers with a lot on their minds. There is a sweetness to both schoolgirl Minnie’s romantic efforts and blundering errors, all the while revealing a broader astute take on the class system and life’s expectations.
