Ó Bhéal is a cinematic exploration of the rise of Hip Hop and Electronic artists in Ireland embracing oral traditions of folklore, ancient poetry and sean nós singing to create a new fusion sound, a culture clash through music.
An ensemble piece, featuring Irish language rappers Seán ‘Mory’ Ó Muirgheasa and Oisín Mac, producer and multi-instrumentalist Fehdah, and Limerick rapper Strange Boy, this beautiful film delves deep into these four artists’ process and how they are breaking new ground in Irish music.
Le déanaí, tá ceoltóirí Hip Hop agus Ceol Leictreonach in Éirinn ag tarraingt as tobar domhain an traidisiúin béil, an tseanfhilíocht agus an amhránaíocht ar an sean-nós, ag briseadh talamh nua i réimse an cheoil. Trí súile ceathrar ceoltóir – Mory, Oisín Mac, Fehdah agus Strange Boy faightear léargas domhain ar an gcaoi go bhfuil siad ag brú teorann nua agus ag cruthú ceoil úrnua na nGael.
The screening on Sat 11 Nov at 9.00pm is part of LUMI’s Emerald Reels, highlighting Irish cinema at QFT. This special screening will include a Q&A with Irish language rapper Oisín Mac, who is featured in the film. There will also be an accompanying short film created with footage from the Digital Film Archive and an accompanying brochure for all Emerald Reels films. Emerald Reels has been created by LUMI Programmer Sophie Adair.
