SeasonVisions of Europe

Mia Hansen-Løve (Bergman Island) returns with another delicate exploration of family bonds, the limits of love and the passage of time, in this absorbing romantic drama.

Sandra (Léa Seydoux), a Parisian translator raising her young daughter alone, becomes increasingly involved in the care of her beloved father (Pascal Greggory), an erudite philosophy professor with a degenerative neurological condition.

When life seems to offer little space for romance, she reconnects with Clément (Melvil Poupaud), an old friend with whom the possibility of love emerges. This very personal film from Hansen-Løve excels in subtly conveying the complexities of life – acknowledging that even with the pain of losing a loved one, it still carries on.

Shot in 35mm, Paris is evocatively present and the cast delivers movingly poignant performances. Deceptively simple, it’s a film of great beauty and quiet power.
