When Amanda (Binoche) walks in on her elderly parents in the throes of what appears to be a consensual sexual encounter her instinct is to call the police. She believes her mother Leslie (Calder-Marshall) who is suffering from dementia, is incapable of giving consent to husband Martin (Courtenay). As this complex, emotionally devastating and utterly gripping scenario plays out we are asked to question our preconceptions, our ideas and our treatment of the elderly in this devastating and superbly acted film.

Queen at Sea received its world premiere in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, where it won both the Silver Bear Jury Prize and the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for both Courtenay and Calder-Marshall.
