Named after the Spanish word for a religious pilgrimage, Romería follows 18-year-old Marina (Llúcia Garcia), who, orphaned at a young age, is now piecing together a past she never truly knew.
Carla Simón (Alcarràs) provides a sequel of sorts to her debut feature Summer 1993 when she uses her mother’s letters to structure the tale of Marina (Garcia), whose scholarship to study film can only be unlocked by a copy of her father’s death certificate.
Past and present come into dialogue as Marina arrives in Galicia to track down the missing document.
Thanks to Curzon for this preview. Romería is released on 8 May.
