Named after the Spanish word for a religious pilgrimage, Romería follows 18-year-old Marina (Llúcia Garcia), who, orphaned at a young age, is now piecing together a past she never truly knew.

Carla Simón (Alcarràs) provides a sequel of sorts to her debut feature Summer 1993 when she uses her mother’s letters to structure the tale of Marina (Garcia), whose scholarship to study film can only be unlocked by a copy of her father’s death certificate.

Past and present come into dialogue as Marina arrives in Galicia to track down the missing document.

Thanks to Curzon for this preview. Romería is released on 8 May.

Visions of Europe returns for its 5th edition, celebrating the breadth of European cinema with a handpicked selection of new releases, previews, festival hits and classics returning to the big screen.

This film is Pay What You Can. This scheme invites you to think about your own circumstances and what you can afford to spend at the cinema. Instead of our usual ticket types, for all Visions of Europe films we have a sliding scale with tickets at £4, £7, £10 and £15. Find out more
