Season Cinemagic On the Pulse

A collection of short animations designed to appeal to young people and families. Meet an array of colourful characters from around the world and vote for your favourite short film at the end of the screening.

All short films are either non-dialogue, in English or with easy-to-follow English subtitles.

Hunting season has begun. A family of capybaras seek refuge in a chicken coop, but the hens don't trust them. The curiosity of the youngest members of the families will create a union with unexpected consequences.…

The Night Tunnel (Dir: Annechien Strouven, Belgium, France & Netherlands, 2024)

After digging a tunnel on the beach, two kids from different sides of the world meet each other. Together, they dig their way to the North Pole, where they discover a magical way to get back home.

A child goes carp fishing. But he has the bad idea of bringing his little dog with him. Between the puppy, a frog and a duck, it's not easy to catch a fish...

Alaia, a 6-year-old girl, is bored on the beach. She'd like an ice cream, but her daddy wants to finish his nap first, so he suggests she make a sandcastle. She walks away with a shovel and starts digging a hole, suddenly she makes a magical discovery. 

The Sea Monster (Dir: Frits Standaert, Belgium & France, 2024)

On the beach, Charlotte wants to play pirates with her two brothers, but she's only allowed to play passively. A girl is not allowed to play fight with the boys, who are the real pirates! Vexed, she leaves. On the pier, she meets Elly, a hundred-year-old sea monster. Together they hatch a plan to teach the boys a lesson...

Cinemagic ‘On the Pulse’, is an exciting month-long programme of screenings, film education events, talks and workshops on the short film genre and short form storytelling. We have programmed a season of the very best international short films, classic heritage shorts and cartoons, as well as showcasing short films made by local young filmmakers.
