During the conflict in Northern Ireland a practice developed that saw actors hired to dub those associated with the IRA on broadcast media.
Via unseen archive footage and present-day interviews with key figures such as Gerry Adams and Stephen Rea, The Ban takes a look at the British government’s use of the threat of ‘terrorism’ to justify censorship, reflecting on the central role of the voice to draw inevitable comparisons with the present.
After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with some of the key subjects involved in the film.
Supported by Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive.
This screening is a Docs Ireland World Premiere.
