Bonded by their love of freediving, a record-setting champion and a heroic safety diver try to make history with a remarkable feat, ready to risk it all in this literally breathtaking documentary.

Irish director Laura McGann chronicles the precarious, haunting and near-mystical world of freediving, introducing audiences to the driven Alessia Zecchini, a record chasing freediver for who blackouts and emergency CPR are not uncommon. As well as Zecchini, McGann follows Irishman Stephen Keenan, a record breaking diver himself who is searching for purpose and making his way to the Egyptian diving Mecca of Dahab, home of the notoriously deadly Blue Hole. What follows is a story of jubilation and desolation as both Zecchini and Keenan chase the extremes they crave.

Reminiscent of Free Solo in how it details the extremes some people go to for the sheer love of their sport, The Deepest Breath uses stunning underwater cinematography and a captivating score to spotlight one of the most nerve-shredding, inspirational and tragic stories of the last few years.

"Think Free Solo in descent, with shades of Sundance hit Fire of Love, and you’ll have a sense of the nervous and occasionally exhilarating rush that accompanies this film." - Daniel Feinberg, The Hollywood Reporter
