On the 75th anniversary of The Great Escape, historian and presenter Dan Snow hosts a commemorative evening featuring music, interviews with veterans and special guests.
To honour the anniversary of the real-life POW escape from the Luftwaffe-run Stalag Luft III prison in then German-occupied Poland during the Second World War, Dan Snow hosts a live event from the Eventim Apollo which will be broadcast across UK cinemas, followed by The Great Escape presented in stunning 4K.
The D-Day Darlings will perform classics such as The White Cliffs of Dover, plus a specially created arrangement of the film’s iconic theme tune. The famous Triumph TR6 motorcycle, ridden by Steve McQueen in the dramatic fence-jump scene, will also make a rare appearance on stage.
Dan Snow will hear from veterans of the Second World War’s most daring escape and will explore the history and science behind the operation before a screening of arguably the best World War II adventure film ever made, The Great Escape, featuring a host of big-name stars beautifully and meticulously recreating the legendary escape.
This anniversary event is presented by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
