Each year, a guest curator selects a film that has shaped their understanding of law and justice, followed by a live audience discussion.

Law on Film are delighted to welcome Philippe Sands KC, internationally renowned barrister, author, and Professor of the Public Understanding of Law at UCL. Sands has chosen Los Colonos (The Settlers), Felipe Gálvez's acclaimed historical drama examining settler colonialism in Patagonia and its devastating impact on Indigenous communities.

After the screening, Philippe Sands will join Professor Yvonne McDermott Rees (Queen's University Belfast) for a conversation in the Peter Froggatt Centre. Together, they will discuss the film and its relevance to contemporary debates on colonialism, Indigenous rights, historical responsibility, international justice, and the legacies of state violence.

Law on Film is based in the School of Law at QUB, and the project is coordinated by Richard Summerville, Dr Norah Burns and Dr Marisa McVey.
