Our final Dementia Friendly screening for 2019 is Billy Wilder’s adaptation of George Axelrod's Broadway smash hit.
In this hilarious farce, Tom Ewell reprises his starring role on stage as Richard Sherman, a New York City executive whose wife and child are away for the summer. Opposite him is the Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, the gorgeous new neighbour upstairs. If Manhattan in August isn’t hot enough, Monroe adds another layer of steam-heat to Ewell’s life by making him deal with some burning temptations...
This is one of Wilder's funnier and sillier films even while dealing with the weighty issue of infidelity. Ewell is, as expected, fantastic. Also this is when Marilyn Monroe really cemented her persona, and while the script makes her character of The Girl possible to play as one-note, it's Monroe's effervescent and playfulness that makes her much more than that. Right down to her wonderful final moment.
Our Dementia Friendly screenings aim to make cinema more accessible by providing a fun and inclusive experience for people living with dementia, their families and carers. QFT is committed to the Age-Friendly Belfast Charter.
