Writer-director Patricia Kelly’s witty and endearing debut feature revolves around an unlikely friendship between two very different women. This Northern Irish premiere is screening as part of NI Mental Health Arts Festival.
Marian (Geraldine McAlinden), recently retired and unfulfilled, stumbles upon a job as a census enumerator where she meets teenager Jewel (Maya O’Shea) who has been living as a sex worker since her mother abandoned her. As the two become reluctant friends, Marian realises that, with this unlikely ally by her side, she can forge a new and empowering future.
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with writer-director, Patricia Kelly and lead actor, Geraldine McAlinden.
The NI Mental Health Arts Festival is dedicated to challenging stigma, providing forums for dialogue with compassion and dignity, and celebrating the pivotal role of creativity, self-expression and the arts upon our mental health of well-being. The festival takes place from 9-19 May.
