Recently restored by the BFI, I Know Where I’m Going! is a charming romantic masterpiece from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger (The Red Shoes) about money, marriage, and second thoughts.

Headstrong Joan Webster (Wendy Hiller) sets off, wedding dress in tow, to marry a rich older man on his remote Hebridean island. When bad weather strands her on the island of Mull, far from her fiancé, she finds herself struggling to cope with the unplanned turn of events, as a life-threatening whirlpool and an ancient curse force her to re-think her upcoming nuptials.

A sadly oft-forgotten romantic comedy, I Know Where I’m Going! is a magical and entertaining entry in the Powell and Pressburger canon which is ripe for rediscovery.

I Know Where I'm Going! will include a 3 min recorded intro by Martin Scorsese, courtesy of The Film Foundation.

Part of Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell and Pressburger. With support of the BFI Film Audience Network, awarding funds from the National Lottery in order to bring this project to more audiences across the UK. This screening is also part of the Belfast International Arts Festival, which takes place throughout Belfast from 12 October to 5 November.
