Audio Description and Captioning

QFT offer Audio Description and Captions on selected films when available.

What are Captioned Screenings?

Captioned Screenings are screenings which feature captions or subtitles which benefit lots of our audience members including D/deaf and hard of hearing customers. As well as showing the dialogue, the captioned screenings provide information on other significant sounds. For example: when something is being sung; when a phone rings; when a door slams. This extra information allows customers using the captions to access the film more fully.

What is audio description?

Audio Description is a service for partially sighted or blind people providing an audio track of key visual descriptions. This track runs in time with the film's action.

We can provide Audio Description (AD) on selected titles via cordless headsets. Headsets are provided with earphones or can be customised for use with personal earphones.

We have a limited number of headsets so please let us know, by emailing qftmanager@qub.ac.uk, if you would like to reserve one for a screening.

Accessible Screenings Newsletter
We're working on improving access at QFT. One of the ways we hope to do this is by creating a dedicated newsletter detailing our upcoming Accessible Screenings, whether that's captioned screenings, relaxed screenings or screenings with Audio Description.

We want to create the newsletter with its recipients in mind. If you're interested in helping us shape this newsletter and/or have thoughts about access at QFT, please complete this form.
