A remarkably assured debut by Christos Nikou, Apples is a Greek comedy-drama reminiscent of the work of Yorgos Lanthimos and the perfect film for the times we live in.
As an unpredictable, sweeping pandemic causes people to develop sudden amnesia, Aris (Aris Servetalis) finds himself enrolled in a recovery program designed to help him build a new life. His treatment: performing daily tasks prescribed by his doctors on cassette tapes and capturing these new memories with a Polaroid camera.
As Aris undertakes the mundane tasks he is soon paired up with Anna (Sofia Georgovassili), a fellow amnesiac, and begins to build a new identity while simultaneously rediscovering fragments of his former life.
"Quietly satirical and unexpectedly moving...Nikou balances profundity with absurdism to striking effect - ****" - Mark Kermode
