SeasonVisions of Europe

Io Capitano tells the story Seydou and Moussa, two Senegalese teenagers who leave Dakar to travel to Europe where they believe opportunities await.

On a journey neither could have imagined, the boys face the dangers of the desert, the horrors of detention centres in Libya and the perils of the sea in an epic coming-of-age tale that offers a deeply human perspective on the migrant crisis.

Directed by two-time BAFTA-nominee Matteo Garrone (GomorrahTale of Tales), Io Capitano received the Silver Lion and Best Young Actor Awards at Venice Film Festival, and has been nominated for Best International Feature at this year's Academy Awards.

From 29 March to 18 April, Visions of Europe returns to celebrate the breadth of European cinema. With a handpicked selection of films, we take in the best of European film including previews, festival hits and classics returning to the big screen. This year, all Visions of Europe screenings are Pay What You Can, find out more.
