To coincide with Bradley Cooper’s new biopic about Leonard Bernstein, we present a special one-off screening which presents the original 1973 concert film which features prominently in Maestro.

Directed by Sir Humphrey Burton at Ely Cathedral, Cambridgeshire, during September 1973, this incredible film showcases Bernstein and Mahler at their best. Show-stopping performances from the London Symphony Orchestra, Edinburgh Festival Chorus with Dame Janet Baker and Sheila Armstrong, along with Bernstein’s passionate conducting make this an unforgettable experience.

The leading Mahler interpreter of his time, Bernstein recorded all of Mahler's symphonies as concert films for Unitel between 1971 and 1985, producing a unique musical document and triggered a major re-appreciation of Mahler's works.

Bernstein’s biographer and the director Sir Humphrey Burton introduces via a video he recorded at Ely Cathedral in 2018, as part of the BernsteinAt100 series of worldwide events.
