A working-class man sees his fate change forever when he defends a young boy from a beating by a security guard on the Naples' docks in Pietro Marcello's adaptation of Jack London's novel Martin Eden.
When Martin Eden (Luca Marinelli) saves a young boy from an act of violence, his kindness is repaid with an invitation to dinner at the boy's bourgeois home. It is there that Martin meets Elena (Jessica Cressy), the daughter of an upper-crust industrial family. It is love at first sight for Eden, seduced by her education and refinement.
Eden hopes for marriage with Elena as well as an increase in his social standing and to finally achieve his dream of becoming an accomplished writer. However, he soon falls under the influence of a left-wing journalist who guides him deeper into socialist circles, resulting not only in a political reawakening, but also to a potential split with Elena and her elite world.
