This award-winning documentary travels the length of Dublin's fabled North Circular Road, where local characters share their powerful and emotive stories, accompanied by traditional ballads and folk music.
North Circular conjures the ghosts of the past while engaging with the conflicts and celebrations of today, with a spooky folk-horror mood and a little bit of Dublin humour too.
Shot in atmospheric black & white in a 4:3 aspect, the film includes performances from the newest stars of the Irish folk scene which is based in the neighborhood including Lisa O'Neill, Ian Lynch (Lankum), John Francis Flynn, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and a special appearance by Gemma Dunleavy (Up De Flats).
North Circular has won awards at the Dublin, Louth and IndieCork Film Festivals and made its international premiere at Sheffield DocFest.
This Fleadh on Film screening is presented as part of the Fleadh at Queen’s programme which celebrates the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026 coming to Belfast for the first time, and the rich tradition of Irish music and heritage. See the full programme of campus-wide events here.
