In The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, friends-with-benefits, Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, must fight to let the good times roll when illegal activities at the popular Chicken Ranch are exposed.

Miss Mona (Dolly Parton) runs the Chicken Ranch, a brothel with a long history in a small Texas town. The locals have a good relationship with the institution, and Mona is respected in the community.

The sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd (Burt Reynolds), also looks out for the Chicken Ranch due to his past with Miss Mona. However, when pious reporter Melvin Thorpe (Dom DeLuise) exposes the brothel and targets it as the devil’s playhouse, outside interests want it shut down, putting the governor (Charles Durning) in a tough spot.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas was Dolly’s second appearance in a major theatrical release, her first being 9 to 5. It earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture in a Comedy or Musical and Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for Dolly.

To coincide with their Blue Smoke exhibition, The Naughton Gallery has partnered with QFT to curate a Dolly Parton season as part of their collaborative SCREEN/PRINT project. Running through April and May 2022, Dolly on Screen will feature screenings of four Dolly Parton films, celebrating her iconic career.
