Winner of the audience award at last year’s Galway Film Fleadh, Trad is a hugely entertaining celebration of Irish music, written and directed by Lance Daly (Kisses, Black ’47).
From their home in the Donegal Gaeltacht, gifted fiddle player Shóna McAnally and her little brother Mickey take to the road with a troupe of wandering musicians, on a cross-country journey of adventure, romance, and musical exploration.
Trad introduces rising Irish stars Megan Nic Fhionnghaile and Cathal Coade Palmer, alongside a standout supporting cast including Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, Kin), Sarah Greene (Bad Sisters, Black ‘47), Peter Coonan (King Frankie, Love/Hate) and Ann Skelly (Rose Plays Julie, Four Letters of Love).
+ My Old Love (short) (20 mins)
Musician Fintan McHugh delves into the world of filmmaking and creates the story of a singer-songwriter who quits music for good. McHugh acts out all the roles in this multi-layered circus-coloured work of split personality, loneliness, a longing for collective experience, with the core question being: can an artist simply give up being an artist?
This film contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
This Fleadh on Film screening is presented as part of the Fleadh at Queen’s programme which celebrates the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026 coming to Belfast for the first time, and the rich tradition of Irish music and heritage. See the full programme of campus-wide events here.
