Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal star in Andrew Haigh’s follow-up to The North Water, a superb and unsettling adaptation of Taichi Yamada’s Strangers.
Grounded by two great performances from its leads, Andrew Scott plays Adam, a depressed screenwriter who encounters a mysterious neighbour (Mescal), which breaks him out of a rut. As a relationship develops, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and returns to his childhood home where his parents appear to be living as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.
Award winning director Haigh (Weekend) has crafted a potent and moving reflection on grief and loneliness, while a stellar cast, accompanied by a killer '80s synth pop soundtrack, helps to deliver one of the most heart-breaking films of the year.
All of Us Strangers contains several sequences with flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photosensitivities.
