Filmmaker Allison (Plaza) arrives as a house guest at the home of troubled couple Gabe and Blair (Christopher Abbott and Sarah Gadon), who have eschewed their life in the city for more rustic pastures. Battling writer's block, Allison discovers that the rural retreat inspires her in intense and surprising ways. Over a wine-fuelled dinner the three talk, bicker and provoke each other until they reach breaking point and the film cuts to black. Yet Black Bear is not ending, but only just beginning.
