Visionary director Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr. Fox) returns with a beguiling, stunningly crafted stop-motion animation that is destined to win your heart.
Taking a generous helping of inspiration from the great Akira Kurosawa, Anderson’s delightful adventure is set in a dystopian future Japan. An outbreak of “canine flu” has led to all dogs being quarantined on Trash Island, an exile colony. 12-year-old Atari Kobayashi (Koyu Rankin) defies the authorities to embark on a daring rescue mission to the island. All he wants is a chance to save his beloved dog Spots (Liev Schreiber). He is soon face to face with five local dogs - Chief (Bryan Cranston), Rex (Edward Norton), Boss (Bill Murray), Duke (Jeff Goldblum) and King (Bob Balaban). The canine quintet are eager for adventure and determined to protect and serve Atari on his noble quest.
Taking heart from his much-cherished stop-motion take on Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox in 2009, Wes Anderson has returned to animation to craft a new, original animated gem that will charm and delight cinemagoers young and old. Isle of Dogs is the very essence of why we all love the movies.
The all-star voice cast also includes Greta Gerwig, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Harvey Keitel and Yoko Ono.
