Be kind rewind. We’re going back to the ‘80s with long-time friend of QFT Brian Henry Martin, screening two John Hughes’ classics from his trusty top loader.
Brian has been rifling through his old VHS collection to find the perfect films to show off the once-dominant format, now relegated to charity shop bargain buckets. After sharing his love of this now curious format, Brian will play each tape IN FULL – with trailers of long forgotten films, FBI piracy warnings, the lot. If it’s on tape, it’s going on screen.
FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF
In this 1986 classic, Ferris (Matthew Broderick) serves as a role model for adolescents everywhere, and his wisdom continues to inspire multitudes of high school students hoping to turn their ordinary day into something extraordinary. Save Ferris!
Dir: John Hughes | 1986 | USA | 1 hr 39 mins
PRETTY IN PINK
Molly Ringwald plays Andie, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks who falls for rich kid Blane (Andrew McCarthy). Written by John Hughes and wrapped up in a fabulous ‘80s package: the music! Iona's wardrobe! Iona's hair! James Spader! The prom dress! Ok, well, maybe not the prom dress.
Dir: Howard Deutch | 1986 | USA | 1 hr 33 mins
Technical note: we’ll be screening both films from genuine, original VHS tapes, so please come with a warm heart and open mind about picture and sound quality.
This screening is part of Film Feels Curious, a UK-wide cinema season, supported by the National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network. Explore all films and events at filmfeels.co.uk.
