Returning to Ho Chi Minh City for the first time since he was six years old, Kit (Golding) embarks on a personal journey to find the perfect spot to disperse his recently deceased mother’s ashes. Having fled the country in the aftermath of the Vietnam-American war, Kit struggles to make sense of himself in a city he no longer recognises. Yet, while on his journey, he encounters a series of people who might open his eyes to the possibility of love and happiness.
A graceful and rich film, anchored by a typically charming and understated performance from Golding, Monsoon tackles themes such as cultural identity and the power of legacy with a delicacy that will linger long in the memory.
