Screening from a blistering new 4K restoration, Sergio Leone's epic Once Upon a Time in the West is among the greatest westerns ever filmed, and a career highlight from its legendary director.
Blue-eyed sadist Frank (Henry Fonda) is a ruthless, murderous psychopath who suffers no conscience pangs after annihilating an entire family. When Jill (Claudia Cardinale) inherits the family's land, the outlaw Cheyenne (Jason Robards) and mysterious ‘Harmonica’ (Charles Bronson) take it upon themselves to look after Jill and thwart Frank’s plans to seize her land. As alliances and betrayals mutate, it soon becomes clear that Harmonica wants to get Frank for another reason.
Co-written with Dario Argento and featuring a mesmerising score by the great Ennio Morricone - including the famous musique concrete of the astonishing, almost wordless first 15 minutes - Leone's classic is a harsh and complex ode to the end of the American West.
"As mysterious and mesmeric as ever...still a landmark." - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
