Point Break was lost from cinemas for seven years, but film programmer/writer Sophie Brown hunted for years to bring it back to UK screens, on 35mm.

FBI rookie Special Agent Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) is partnered with veteran Angelo Pappas (Gary Busey) to learn the ropes. Pappas’s great fixation is the slippery Ex-Presidents – a group of masked bank-robbers who have so far eluded capture with their slick operation. Following a hunch sparked by the incongruous presence of sand at the crime scenes, Utah learns to surf to infiltrate the local subculture. Charismatic, mystical surfer Bodhi (Patrick Swayze) takes Utah under his wing, and the case gets complicated when Johnny and Bodhi embark on a next-level bromance, and Johnny falls hard for Bodhi’s ex-girlfriend Tyler (Lori Petty).

This film was Kathryn Bigelow’s biggest box-office hit, but with her mockery of hyper-masculinity, satirisation of the action film genre and challenge to gender stereotyping, Bigelow subverted the Hollywood system from within.

Don’t miss this exceptionally rare chance to see Point Break on the big screen.

QFT is delighted to welcome Sophie Brown – A.K.A Bijou Electric Empire Forever – to introduce the film and discuss her epic search to track down the elusive rights holder.
