The Naughton Gallery presents Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet as part of its SCREEN/PRINT series, which sees artists design new posters for films that have inspired or influenced their practices.

William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet (to give it its full original title) has been selected by Brooklyn-based artist Sean O’Connor, whose solo exhibition, Hero Worship, runs at the Naughton Gallery from 16 August – 30 September.

Following his smash hit debut Strictly Ballroom (1992), Australian director Baz Luhrmann took on Shakespeare’s greatest love story and, as a result, made the work of the Bard a firm favourite with teen audiences. As the star-crossed lovers themselves, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes have both youthful exuberance and palpable chemistry, and effectively convey the themes of the play, both light and dark.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to see Luhrmann’s astonishing post-modern adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known works, with all attendees receiving a free copy of O’Connor’s limited edition print.
