Directed by the acclaimed Belfast-born filmmaker Brian Desmond Hurst, Scrooge is one of the best-known adaptations of Charles Dickens’ Christmas classic.

Alastair Sim (An Inspector Calls) stars as the notorious curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge, persuaded to change his ways one Christmas by visitations from the ghost of his former business partner and the Spirits of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet-To-Come.

Often hailed as Northern Ireland’s greatest ever director, Brian Desmond Hurst went from working class East Belfast to Golden Age Hollywood and worked with greats such as Alec Guinness and James Mason. Starring a never-better Sim, Hurst’s Scrooge is a delicious and lively adaptation of the most famous Christmas tale.

“Brian Desmond Hurst’s 1951 retelling is the best British live-action film version… we yearn to share a sherry with the newly jolly rogue.” – Donald Clarke, The Irish Times
