Showing: 20 March 2026 until 26 March 2026
Bobby O’Brien is an energetic 11-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a great detective like his TV hero Kojak.
Bobby's home is inner-city Dublin in 1984 - a place where Bobby and his best pal Nell torment their family and friends as they set up their own private investigation enterprise; but when his older brother disappears, Bobby and Nell finally have a real case, embarking on a journey that threatens to take them into the darkest corners of the city.
Filmmaker Brian Durnin fashions a unique coming-of-age story that’s by turns charming and harrowing, viewing the heroin epidemic that raged in Dublin at the time through a child’s eyes.
As the curious leads, young stars Cillian Sullivan and Naoise Kelly demonstrate a wisdom and subtlety beyond their years, bringing tenderness and honesty to the roles of working-class preteens forced to grow up too soon. The supporting cast include Danielle Galligan, Laurence O’Fuarain, Pom Boyd, and Lewis Brophy.
The 6.10pm screening on Sat 21 Mar will be followed by a Q&A with director Brian Durnin, hosted by author Jan Carson.
