Helen Mirren and Michael Gambon star in director Peter Greenaway's infamous avant-garde crime drama which skewers Britain's social, moral and political carcass during the era of Thatcherism. Screening in glorious 35mm.

Sleazy gangster Albert Spica (Gambon) dines at his high-class London restaurant Le Holandais every night with his grand entourage. This is much to the dismay of his long-suffering wife Georgina (Mirren), who begins a secret affair with regular patron Michael (Alan Howard). But events take a disastrous, macabre turn when the menacing Albert discovers their secret affair.

A smorgasbord of sex and violence, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover is a deliciously savage attack on the social ills and decadence of the 1980s.

"[A] no-mercy assault on the mind and senses...a provocative and diabolically funny foray into the roots of passion and cruelty." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
