The master of cinematic surrealism, Luis Buñuel, offers a scathing satire of social mores in this story of six upper-middle class friends who repeatedly try to have dinner together but who find their plans interrupted by various bizarre events.

The ambassador of the Latin American republic of Miranda, M. Thevenot, his wife Simone and her sister Florence arrive for a dinner party at the house of Alice Sénéchal and her husband Henri, only to learn that they were mistaken about the date. As they make repeated attempts to dine together, they are continually thwarted by vaudevillian events both actual and imagined.

Featuring a cast of European-film greats - including Fernando Rey, Stéphane Audran, Delphine Seyrig, Jean-Pierre Cassel and Bulle Ogier - The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is the Oscar-winning pinnacle of Buñuel’s late-career as well as a gleefully radical assault on the values of the ruling class.

"Superbly disturbing...an exotic and brilliant hothouse flower of a film - ★★★★★" - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
