The first part of Krzysztof Kieślowski's classic, award-winning trilogy on France’s national motto: Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Three Colours: White and Three Colours: Red will also be screening at QFT, all in remastered 4K.
Julie (Juliette Binoche) loses her composer husband and their child in a car crash and, though devastated, tries to make a new start, away from her country house and a would-be lover. But music still surrounds her and gradually she uncovers some unpleasant facts about her husband’s life.
Three Colours: Blue was an immediate success upon release 30 years ago, winning prizes at the 1993 Venice Film Festival and unanimous praise from critics and audiences the world over. Kieślowski’s film is both an arresting study of individual freedom and a lucid examination of a woman’s state of mind, with a career-best performance from Binoche.
