Perhaps one of David Lynch's most potent cinematic dreamscapes, Lost Highway is a mesmerising meditation on the mysterious nature of identity.
Fred Madison (Bill Pullman), a musician, starts receiving mysterious VHS tapes of him and his wife Renee (Patricia Arquette) in their home and is tortured by the idea that she is having an affair. After being suddenly convicted of her murder, he inexplicably disappears and is replaced by a young mechanic (Balthazar Getty) leading a different life.
Expanding the horizons of the medium, Lost Highway is a postmodern noir detour into the realm of science fiction, where it becomes apparent that the only certainty is uncertainty.
"Lynch brings the movie’s febrile and violent artifice to life...may be the director’s purest exercise of style." - Richard Brody, New Yorker
