Arguably the most radical courtroom drama in cinema history, 12 Angry Men is an electrifying snapshot of one tense afternoon in a sweltering jury room. Attendees will receive a free poster by illustrator David McMillan.

A Puerto Rican youth is on trial for murder, accused of knifing his father to death. The twelve jurors retire to the jury room, having been warned that the defendant is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Eleven of the jurors quickly vote for conviction, each for reasons of his own. However, Juror #8 (Henry Fonda) is reluctant to send the youngster to death row without any debate and returns a vote of not guilty.

As the heat and tension rises, the jurors begin to re-evaluate the case, as they look at the murder - and themselves - in a fresh light.

One of the great directorial debuts, Sidney Lumet’s (Dog Day Afternoon) classic is a riveting look at the American legal system.

Part of Objection! and the Naughton Gallery’s SCREEN/PRINT series in collaboration with QFT and UsFolk, through which illustrators are commissioned to create new posters for films which have inspired or influenced their practices. Attendees will receive a free poster by Bristol-based illustrator David McMillan.
